School systems around the country are implementing new learning standards designed to ensure that all children – no matter where they live – graduate high school with the skills they need to be ready to succeed in college or careers.  These standards are known as Common Core State Standards (CCSS), and while they may have a different name in your state, they have a shared goal – to better prepare all of our children to compete in today’s and tomorrow’s economy.

As parents, it is important for you to understand the Common Core so that you are fully empowered to be close partners with your children and their teachers in helping to ensure your children’s high-quality education and success.  This includes helping to answer your children’s questions about the changes in their classrooms, smoothing the transition to a new learning method and explaining to them that these new Standards are critical to helping them succeed in life with:

  • Enhanced skills
  • Increased knowledge
  • Better preparedness

By raising and developing higher standards for everyone, the Common Core State Standards create a level playing field for all students regardless of family income, ethnicity or where they live.

It’s time to put ALL of our children first!  #putourchildren1st
